The Global Education Fund again funded Superemos in February 2011 to arrange a teacher training activity for over 20 teachers in coordination with the Ministry of Education. The activity was held in the Superemos project centre. We were lucky to have Morgan Smith and Alan Olds present on the first day of the training. They were able to participate and observe the activity before returning to the United States. We are very grateful to Judy Markley of the Global Education fund and to the Nicaraguan Education Ministry for making this training possible.

We have been very busy preparing the site for the activities in 2011. The ceramic workshop is now operating normally in the new space we were able to build thanks to help from the Nicaraguan government flood relief fund. That funding of US$3000 also helped us rebuild a multi-use classroom space that we can later adapt for other activities too. We have installed new sanitary facilities to replace the old latrines and generally tried to make the site as attractive as possible for the everyone who takes part in the many community and education activities here.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure continue to do a fantastic job by way of conserving the river bank. These works are extremely important for Superemos because by protecting the bridge over the Panamerican Highway they will also provide essential protection for the lower part of our project site - immediately adjacent to the highway - from the kind of destructive flooding that occurred in September this year.

Many of the participants are now in their sixties and seventies and have various problems that they are trying to organize to resolve as a group - for example to do with health care or pensions.
