On December 12th Superemos helped organized a cultural activity for local people in Estelí and other parts of northern Nicaragua - like Ocotal and Matagalpa - who were participants in the struggle against the Somoza dictatorship.

Many of the participants are now in their sixties and seventies and have various problems that they are trying to organize to resolve as a group - for example to do with health care or pensions.

As much as anything the event was an activity where old friends could meet up who had not seen each other in years. The program included a presentation by the grandson of Augusto C. Sandino, songs from local musicians, folk dancing from local school students and the recital of poems by participants in the event.

The activity was the second in what we hope will be a series of cultural events to assist this group of people who sacrificed so much in the cause of freedom and democracy in Nicaragua.
