Every year Superemos and the "Christine King" Cooperative organize an activity to celebrate the very popular traditonal religious feast of the Immaculate Conception known in Nicaragua as the Purísima. This year a group of young people from Managua designed and built the altar for this activity which we always hold on the date of the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, December 12th. |
At the end of October two young musicians, Maria Ana Ravera and José María Isla, from Argentina visited Estelí for two days and participated in the foundation's activities, in particular with the Sones Segovianos music education programme. Here are some of their songs.
Al fin de octubre, dos jóvenes de argentina, Maria Ana Ravera and José María Isla, visitaron a la fundación y participaron durante dos días en las actividades comunitarias, especialmente en las actividades del proyecto de educación musical, Sones Segovianos. Aquí presentamos algunas de sus canciones.
In July this year agronomist Hector Martinez gave a half-day workshop on the cultivation of different varieties of aromatic herbs. Many members of the cooperative took part as well as other people involved in projects to encourage families to grow vegetables and to consume a healthier diet. The training was especially useful for Edelma Acuña and Carmen Irias who are the educators of the SINAI preschool in Barrio Nuevo Amanecer supported by Superemos. Th epreschool has a small garden area ideal for growing these herbs.
Since 2003 Superemos has offered students classes in computer skills using free software based on the GNU Linux operating system. Currently the programme is funded by the social projects fund of the Albanisa company. The programme serves over 20 students with weekly classes taught by Milagro Silva. Computer skills are an essential prerequisite for almost all office employment now in Nicaragua. Milagro teaches word processing and spreadsheet skills as well as enabling the students to make efficent and secure use of the Internet.
In July this year Superemos and Sones Segovianos hosted what is thought to be the first Nicaragua Guitar Congress. The event was organized by Edward Grigassy of Texas and brought together guitarists from all over Nicaragua and also guitar teachers from El Salvador, Guatemala, and the United States. The purpose of the Congress was to enhance guitar playing skills in general in Nicaragua and the region and, specifically, to advance guitar teaching methodology among the Congress participants.
The Sones Segovianos music education project held its first semester end of term concert on July 5th this year. After a video of one of the practice sessions, we have posted some photgraphs and also various audio clips of some of the performances.

In the last weekend of June this year, the Aid for Nicaragua Association of Japan organized a solar panel workshop to follow up the training work they have been devoting to the Christine King Multi Service Cooperative over the last several years.The foundation and the cooperative invited lecturer in renewable energy Jürgen Külke from the local campus of the National Autonomous University to participate with some of his students, so the workshop involved over a dozen people. The Japanese delegation giving the workshop consisted of Ito Yukiyoshi, Toshihiko Yamamoto and Kenji Ishizu.
Education and training activities supported by Superemos take place throughout the school year. We are especially pleased that the Sones Segovianos music education project has been strongly supported by local parents who recently requested that the school extend its activities to include traditional Nicaraguan dance classes.The cooperative's sewing workshop helped the Sones Segovianos music education project, producing the necessary traditional dance costumes.
