Solar energy workshop
Thanks to our friends in the Association Aid to Nicaragua of Japan, we were able to organize another solar panel workshop this year involving participants from local communities, the Christine King Cooperative and the local national Autonomous University's campus here in Estelí. The workshop was led by Toshihiko Yamamoto with interpreting support and advice from Kenji Ishizu.
Final work on the remodelled main building
Work is now almost finished on the remodelling of the main school building. The floor is down. We have installed expanded polystyrene in the external walls so as to reduce the noise level from the main highway. The main entrance will now be at the far end of the building with a more ample entrance area. Security and class room privacy will be better since we have installed new doors for that purpose. The new auditorium space benefits also from new windows fitted so as to reduce external noise as much as possible.
Remodelling the main building
Work on remodelling the main school building is now at the point where we almost have the floor laid, ready to work on the walls and doors and windows. We also expect to reinstall the electrical wiring over the next few days. Here are somoe photos of what things look like at the moment. All this work should be done by the end of the month ready for the start of classes on February 2nd.

The remodelling work on the main school building is progressing well. The new roof is now complete. The ramp providing wheelchair access has been laid. Dismantling of the floor and clearing of the floor sub-space is done and the first steel beams to support the floor have been set in place. We expect to have the floor completed by next weekend and the remainder of the work will be complete by the end of the month, God willing. |

By January 1st, the welding team had virtually finished the roof structure. But we discovered that the floor structure needed to be replaced in order to accommodate the likely assemblies of over 100 people we will now be able to accommodate in the remodelled building. The photos that follow give a good idea of how far we have progressed. |
Remodelling the main school building - so far, so good
December is one of the foundation's busiest months because, with no activities taking place, we can undertake the various maintenance and remodelling chores necessary to keep the site as agreeable and attractive as possible to all the people who use it. This year we have decided to remodel the main school building in order to better accommodate the music and dance activities that have become so important to local people in Estelí over the last couple of years. The end result should be a multi-purpose auditorium with a capacity for about 110 people.
