With a donation from Casa Pueblito, a Canadian community development program, the Christine King Cooperative has helped Superemos with a new wall and a better access by an extra main gate. This will greatly improve access and security for our students and other users of our community project center.  We are very grateful to Casa Pueblito for this important help.

New second floor classroom

Despite logistical and other difficulties caused by political unrest in the second quarter of the year, 2018 was still a successful year for Superemos.

Every month the ICES team, Karen Villarreyna the program psychologist, and Maria Felix Castillo, the program lawyer, visit the primary school in the community of La Quinta about 12 kilometers from the city of Esteli to do education work with the students in relations to gender issues, especially how to avoid potential sexual abuse.

Attractive sandals for Semana Santa

For about a month during February and March this year, Katie London from Boston, who works in education for children with special needs, worked with parents and teachers doing training workshops to impart skills and knowledge enabling them to improve their children's education.

Katie gave two trainings at the Ministry of the Family. One focused on stages of change and one focused on motivational interviewing. The idea behind these was to offer a framework for intervening together with families rather than telling families what to do so as to better engage with their children.

Our project addressing domestic violence (ICES) received the visit of two psychologists Lyn Styczynski and Len Greenberg from the Boston area. They have been developing a program since 2017 in coordination with the Ministry of the Family, the National Autonomous University (FAREM-UNAN) in Estelí and the ICES project to identify and give follow up to cases of domestic violence in rural communities in the municipality of Estelí.
