On August 5th and 6th this year we assisted visiting Swedish optometrist Dr. John Godoy deliver care to 109 people in the town of Pearl Lagoon and another 40 people in the garífuna community of La Fe, located about an hour's boat ride north of Pearl Lagoon. The Nicaraguan authorities greatly facilitated Dr. Godoy's visit as did the municipal authority of Estelí who seconded two of their social program staff to assist Dr. Godoy since they have long experience of working with him in years past in Estelí. The municipal authority of Pearl Lagoon made available the local community center while Superemos coordinated the activity with the relevant local and national authorities. Dr. Godoy was accompanied by his assistant Yaquelin Pulido. Prior to delivering care to local people in Pearl Lagoon, Dr. Godoy had also seen around 700 patients in the city of Estelí and the town of San Juan de Limay.
