Estelí Women's School 2016 examination results report

Through 2016 the Esteli Women’s School was again able to give scholarships to 69 low income women students from marginal barrios in the city of Estelí. All of these students are women whose only practical option to complete their secondary education is to study with us in the Estelí Women’s School because other secondary education institutions do not offer them the timetable and attention that they need in order to successfully complete their studies. Since our program offers only night classes, we provide free transport home each night for our women students to their barrios.

Apart from the adult baccalaureate classes, our school offers our adult women students gender education covering personal development, coping with domestic violence, employment law and, reproductive health all of which are highly relevant issues for all our women students. Our students also have the option to study computer skills which is now a prerequisite for work in office or shop employment in the local economy.

In 2016 we also began a successful project with support from the Casa Canadiense to promote the habit of reading among our students such that now we have a dedicated library and reading room. We will develop this project more in 2017 since weakness in reading is a serious weakness for many of our students preventing them from realizing their full potential.

This year our school achieved the best result of all the educational centres participating in the Adult Baccalaureate program which is supervised centrally by Nicaragua’s Ministry of Education. Our results were as follows:
